WHAT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE?

Elena Cavallo is an innovation and integration partner advancing systemic healthcare and healing. She founded Quilting Health around a theme she’s been exploring throughout her life:

What if we drew on a broader range of human knowledge, capabilities, and wisdom available to us, to guide how we connect, innovate, heal, and flourish through transitions?

Through this platform, she brings together healthcare leadership, systems thinking, innovation, strategic consulting, coaching, and training to help people, teams, organizations, and communities discover what's possible when we access more of what we already are.

A PERSONAL STORY:
THE THREADS OF QUILTING HEALTH

Since childhood, I've been fascinated by the mind-body connection and how it shapes our inner and outer worlds — transforming our internal experience and supporting healing, while enabling us to engineer novel solutions and systems that influence the health of organizations, communities, and broader society.

I first followed the inner thread through education in neuroscience and early career in multidisciplinary clinical research, exploring how the mind, brain, and body interact in health and healing.

Over time, my focus expanded into healthcare operations and systems-level work, inspiring me to study management and data science — learning how people, information, technology, and organizational systems can come together for better solutions at scale. This outer thread led me to community health and hospital settings, including a senior leadership role in strategy implementation and system transformation at a leading U.S. academic healthcare system. There, I experienced even more deeply how communication, shared purpose, collaborative change, and innovation can connect mindsets to action and mobilize impact across the entire living body of an organization — and well beyond its walls.

In parallel, I continued to follow the inner thread, dedicating more of my personal time to learning from multicultural healing wisdom traditions, studying with integrative health pioneers such as Herbert Benson, MD, and volunteering in holistic health programs at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. Across some 500 sessions with patients and staff, I witnessed firsthand how integrative approaches can open different dimensions of the care experience and complement conventional care.

Around the same time, I began coaching leaders and teams in spearheading healthcare innovation initiatives and subsequently pursued formal training in professional coaching to strengthen this work. With each experience, I saw more clearly that great ideas do not succeed alone. They come alive through the ability to connect diverse people, perspectives, and capabilities into cohesive and mutually supportive systems.

By 2018, I recognized that the internal and external, the mainstream and complementary, were no longer meant to be separate, parallel threads in my life. The same fundamental capacities for balance, adaptation, healing, and growth exist within people and systems — and the conditions that help activate them can be cultivated through connection.

This realization gave rise to Quilting Health, bringing together the threads that have shaped my own journey and weaving a fabric of insights and possibilities, in service of a more holistically healthy world. The name itself reflects a belief that something special can emerge through diverse connections that honor the unique beauty of each individual piece while expanding through shared strength.

Piece by piece, I transitioned full-time to Quilting Health in 2024. Today, the work continues to unfold through partnerships with people, teams, organizations, and communities to activate more of our extraordinary potential and advance healthcare innovation, healing, and healthier systems. In the process, we explore what becomes possible when people carrying different pieces of the future connect around a shared mission and create something none of us could create alone.
